When I try to put the bookmark in question in the position I would like it in on the bookmark bar, it either doesn't move to that position or it changes the order of other bookmarks.

I have just started using Firefox after a long while so I have not experienced this before.

Create a new profile as a TEST to check if your current profile is causing the problem.

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over the problem. Never work with original files.
