Thunderbird says " downloading 19 messages" then instantly says "no messages to download" My wife's account on the same computer using the same server settings works perfectly. I can also access my mail on i pad and i phone. Any ideas as to why - I have not changed any serttings and virus scan is clear.

If you go to your provider's webmail site do you see 19 messages there? If so try deleting the 1st one or move it out of the Inbox and see if the remaining messages download.
