persistent junk tags in inbox. I mark them not junk, and a little later, or after closing and opening, junk tag returns

I am using Yahoo mail. IMAP. (Originally AT&T, but AT&T farmed it out to Yahoo.

Email appears in my inbox with a junk tag. If I mark it as junk, it will be remarked as junk shortly thereafter. If I move the mail to a local folder it retains the junk marking, but if I remove the junk tag there, it remains un-tagged. I can then move the message back to the YAHOO account inbox and it does not get retagged as junk.

YAHOO has a spam filter running that usually puts spam in a spam folder that I can see on line. The contents of the YAHOO spam folder also shows up in a Thunderbird folder under the YAHOO account. The folder is named Bulk Mail.

I assume that this is somehow being done by the YAHOO, but I cannot "train" YAHOO filter to treat the message as non-spam, because the YAHOO thinks it is already non-spam and has it stored in its inbox.

Really annoying! Help!

This is indeed being done by yahoo. Thunderbird has a bug which apparently makes it worse by not removing a spam flag when it set mail as not junk in IMAP accounts. I have no idea when it will be fixed. But the constant scanning of all mail to determine if it is junk and moving it if it is, is very much an annoying Yahoo feature which they refuse to allow you to opt out of.

My best solution at the moment is open a mail account with someone like GMX who do not force their definitions on you and forward all mail from the yahoo account to the GMX one. Over time your correspondents will get the message you have changed address, and even if they do not you will still get their mail.

Thanks.

I understand that YAHOO is somehow tagging it in a way that causes Tbird to display a junk tag, but why do these messages end up in the in box? They never go to the server's spam folder as one might expect. I would say that for every one of these that YAHOO sends to my inbox, maybe ten go to the SPAM folder.

There must be something unique about the way these messages are tagged. They do generally come from someone who is in my address book.

Who is GMX?
