Problem is, after I press pause/play with mouse on youtube video, space stops working. In fact it works, but double clicks. So if I wanted to pause video, it pauses and then quickly unpauses. This only happens after I click with mouse on pause/play icon. This started happening recently. What might be the problem?

This problem makes watching youtube quite uncomfortable. Since there is no fix I decided to stick with other browser for a while. Thanks everyone for the replies.

I have the same problem. However, you can click anywhere on the video itself and it will Pause/Play. Also, the Space Bar Pause/Play will then work.
Do you have any YouTube Extensions?

Hey, thanks for the tip. I have tampermonkey installed with script to revert youtube's interface to old one. But disabling it still changes nothing.

I have this too.

If I use the controls at the bottom of the video, the space bar stops pausing, or pauses only temporarily like the OP.

As Pj says, if I click anywhere else in the video then space bar starts working again.

I have a few extensions but not tampermonkey so I doubt they are relevant.

Same problem I think its a YouTube bug.

Seems to be working again, for a while now. Anyone still having problems?

List your Extensions.

You can use the letter 'K' on the keyboard to Pause/Play, also. I've temporarily disabled a YouTube Extension I have and the Space Bar is working for me for now, so whether it's a corrected YT bug and/or my YT Extension, IDK just yet. I'll know more when I re-activate my YT Extension, soon.

Extensions is not the cause, since problem persists even after starting firefox in safe mode, without extensions.

When pressed with mouse, pause gets "selected" and probably that's the problem. That's how it looks: https://prnt.sc/mluep9

Btw, where can I get that extension?

Ok, I reset all my About:Config 'Media.Autoplay' prefs back to default.

When I click on a YT video link, the video auto-starts as normal. Tapping the Space Bar Pauses/Plays the video. Click anywhere on the video Pauses/Plays the video. Pressing the 'K' button Pauses/Plays the video.

When I click on YT's pause/play button, that where the Space Bar fails. So, don't click on YT's pause/play button. (Grin)

The YT Extension I have, which I'll enable soon, is:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/enhancer-for-youtube/

Lots of neat features.
