Just discovered a "re-direct" option in BlockSite, so I've re-directed to "bbc.co.uk" and this seems to work!!

Can you attach a screenshot?

If you use extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) that can block content (Adblock Plus, NoScript, Disconnect, Ghostery, Privacy Badger, uBlock Origin) always make sure such extensions do not block content.

Firefox shows the shield icon at the left end of the location/address bar in case Content Blocking is blocking content.

  • click the shield icon for more details and possibly disable the protection

You can check the Web Console about what content is blocked

You can try these steps in case of issues with web pages:

You can reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.

  • hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
  • press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)

Clear the Cache and remove the Cookies from websites that cause problems via the "3-bar" Firefox menu button (Options/Preferences).

"Remove the Cookies" from websites that cause problems:

  • Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security
    Cookies and Site Data -> Manage Data

"Clear the Cache":

  • Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security
    Cookies and Site Data -> Clear Data -> Cached Web Content: Clear

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Themes
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

A weird thing : when I open the page in Edge, it looks just like it does in Firefox - only when I split the screen, then it displays the text (in Edge only, not in Firefox) :

Note that the screenshot on the right shows the bbc.co.uk website and the Firefox screenshot shows the international bbc.com website (Welcome to BBC.com). I don't know why you get redirected in Firefox. Are you located in the UK?

You can check the connection settings.

  • Options/Preferences -> General -> Network: Connection -> Settings

If you do not need to use a proxy to connect to internet then try to select "No Proxy" if "Use the system proxy settings" or one of the others do not work properly.

See "Firefox connection settings":

In Firefox, the BBC homepage defaults to the "dot-com" version, even though I'm in the UK. I've tried changing the settings, but nothing seems to work . . .

Someone suggested hard re-booting my router, which seems to have done the trick (so far) . . . will see how long this lasts - fingers crossed! Thanks for all your help and advice!

Re-booting the router solution didn't last long. What I've done now is use BlockSite (in Firefox add-ons) to block the "bbc.com" website. So far so good . . .

What a brilliant idea - well done  !

Would you please mark your last post as "Chosen Solution"? ("Solved Problem" button to the right of your last post) That way others, with the same problem, will know what to do ....

Unfortunately, BlockSite now displays a "this page is blocked" image and doesn't re-direct back to "bbc.co.uk". So, thinking cap goes back on . . . there must be a way to defeat Firefox on this!!

Again : well done  !

Just between you and I (as if ... ) : I should have a talk about this with the Beeb, cause if you're located in the UK, like you said you are, you shouldn't get redirected to "bbc.com" .....
