A unique identity matching the From address not found
I am using Thunderbird 91.4.0 on Windows 10. Since this upgrade any email in my inbox when opened has the "A unique identity matching the From address not found" message across the bottom, red 'table indicator' boxes in various places around the message. The links in the email do not link, they bring up a box with various information including the link address. Reply-to shows the sender's address and To field shows my address. Reply, forward, delete buttons are missing. If I move the arriving email to another folder it looks normal, but if I hit 'reply' it gets all weird as above again. I saw that this was a bug a couple of years ago with a version about 20 versions back. What's going on? And more to the point, how can I fix it?
Thank you for any help that you can offer.

What does the icon beside your inbox look like. Compared the those shown below.

Here is what my inbox folder icons look like. (image below). I can open the email normally if I move it to one I have called inbox2 (icon below) but if I try to reply it gets strange again.
Trying to fix this I uninstalled and reinstalled Thunderbird - to no avail.
Thank you for looking at my problem. -Claudia
Those look right, so lets try the next step.
Hold the shift key while starting Thunderbird. Continue in troubleshoot mode when prompted. Still the same?
Can you post a capture of this error message? I am not familiar with it at all, but it sounds like a compose error as identities are used to determine how to send out mail.
I restarted in troubleshooting mode. Strangely, to get messages I was required to enter the 'one time' password that google assigned me when setting up 2 feature authentication. (Thanks for nothing, google) fwiw, my husband's computer has the same os & version of t-bird, but different server settings. His works. (We both accepted installation defaults). I am referring to both of our gmail accounts. I am ignoring my live.com account for the moment though it has the same problems.
I am having the same problem does anyone know a fix for this problem
It is possible the 'Inbox' has got a flag set up as if it thinks it's a draft email. Please try the following:
Install this addon called 'FolderFlags'
How to install addon:
It adds a tab called 'Flags' in the 'Properties' of a folder.
- Right click on 'Inbox' folder and select 'Properties'
- Select the 'Flags' tab
- if a 'Draft' flag has been set - change it to 'Inbox'.
- click on 'OK'
I was getting the same error message "A unique identity...." and installed the Folder Flags addon, right-clicked on my inbox, and selected the Flags tab, the Draft flag was not set but the Template flag was. I unchecked that flag and it fixed the problem. Thanks for that suggestion.
Hi, I had problem with "A unique................", it seemed to appear after sending an email with CC to myself?? Good news is problem resolved with the "Flags" add on. Both Inbox and Drafts folders were set with green tick mark.
Thanks for the help obtained through this post.
Turning off the drafts flag fixed it for me.
Mama_Muzungu - Did you try the addon I mentioned in comment : https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1360856#answer-1492374
This is a solution working for many people, but you have not mentioned anything. It would be helpful if the comment with info regarding using the addon could be marked as a 'Chosen Solution' as it means people may find it.
