This is a recent problem. This did not happen several months ago. I read that this is a preference but cannot find it anywhere. I use video download helper. Cannot find a preference there either. Thank you for helping.

I don't think the browser is the one opening the file. It sounds more like a video download helper issue that is opening the download. Did you contact the Devs as it seems your saying it happens when you use video download helper.

In Video DownloadHelper settings, is "Download processor" set to "Browser" or "Companion application"?

Does it still happen in a new profile? An easy way to test a new profile is to install Developer Edition and see if it happens there or refresh your existing profile.
