Have been using www.iii.co.uk website for many years but recently, in IE9 have been asked if I want to Open or Save a file iii_co_uk. Website tech support can't offer any answer, but have suggested that I try Firefox instead. Looks to be a good alternative to IE9, but when trying to access www.iii..co.uk now seeing display of page or so of 'hieroglyphics'. Can't find answwer to this on any other web searches. Help!

Which encoding is used if you see those hieroglyphics ?

  • Firefox > Web Developer > Character Encoding

What is the default encoding?

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Advanced > Default Character Encoding

Make sure that you have selected the correct encoding, in this case try Western (ISO-8859-1) or maybe Unicode (UTF-8).

Hi. Thanks for very quick response. Default encoding was Unicode (UTF-8), now changed to Western (ISO-8859-1), as was selected for default character encoding. But.....page(s) of hieroglyphics still dislay when tring to access site. Problem seems to be the file iii_co_uk which system is now downloading. Prior to problem occurring, website link was taking me directly to the website without this file appearing. I've yet to find any application that recognises this file, which has no extension (windows option to display file extensions is set).

If the file doesn't have a file extension then it is hard to decide what to do.

Can you post a link to the page with that link or a direct link to the file?
