My import function on the File menu is grayed and hence I can't import data from Safari. Likewise I have tried exporting from Safari only to discover that I have no 'organize bookmarks' function on the Bookmarks menu.

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in permanent Private Browsing mode.

  • You enter Private Browsing mode if you select: Firefox > Preferences > Privacy > History: Firefox will: "Never Remember History"
  • To see all History and Cookie settings, choose: Firefox > Preferences > Privacy, choose the setting Firefox will: Use custom settings for history
  • Deselect: [ ] "Permanent Private Browsing mode"

I don't even show an Import function in my File (nor Export)! And I also don't have the "organize bookmarks" function in Firefox's Bookmarks Menu!

"Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks" has been renamed to "Show All Bookmarks" in Firefox 4 and later.

You can find the Import menu entry in the Bookmarks Manager (Library)
