how to change the search string
The problem I face in the moment is following: if I use the search in the address line, the search will automatically conduct by google Hong Kong (yes, I'm in China). But I don't want. I either want to use the American or German Google. So I changed in about:config the searchstring. But even though, firefox is using the Hong Kong Google. How I can fix it?

thank you for you answers. What helped was: - change the location - remove history - remove Google HK- Cookie. - block Google HK - Cookie. - re-set the location. Thanks a lot!

Hi,
It may not be easily possible. Please see this. See Automatically detected location, and the second point under Specify your preferred location.
You can also try installing FoxyProxy, add a new US proxy and create a Whitelist URL Pattern for *.google.* and check. You may have to first Clear Now the Cache and Cookies in Tools (Alt + T) > Clear Recent History with Time range to clear set to Everything.
You may also want to update Firefox to the latest.

I think that if you have a Google cookie that makes Firefox use the international Google site by clicking the link at the bottom of the localized Google page then Google should use that site for the location bar search as well.
So you can try to create an allow cookie exception for the involved Google site(s).
