I have a verizon e mail account that i have a lot of problems getting e mails and sending them. I am using the ports and server settings given by verizon but it will not download any mail. I have my mail scanning on my avast antivirus turned off. Have looked at the other topics here but cant seem to find an answer that works. Any help from other verizon users.

Interesting information here http://www.verizon.com/support/residential/internet/fiosinternet/email/setup+and+use/questionsone/124289.htm

Note: If you are an HSI (DSL) customer with a Westell or Actiontec modem (except Actiontec GT784WG) and using its firewall, you may need to turn your firewall settings to ‘Low’ for new email settings to work.

I tried the automatic setup but did not work. Did not see thunderbird On their list of e mail clients. I do have a westell modem from verizon but it is very old. Still the same one I had when I signed up for DSL. Using windows 8 firewall will see if turning it off helps. I did turn off my avast e mail scanner The port settings and server settings are correct though.

It is the very old modems that are the problem. they have an internal firewall that needs to be turned off. I suggest you contact comcast if you not confident on how to change it's settings.

Sorry if I confused your ISP, it is a difficulty when dealing with customers of two of the worlds worst ISPs half a world away.

It is not me saying it has a firewall. It is verizon. Therefore please contact them and ask about the issue. Because I have no idea what modems they issue now or in the past. All I am doing is quoting your ISP.
