Why is bookmarking a page stalling and freezing?

I work on a Mac Pro Tower...

I noticed that a few weeks ago, when I bookmarked a page, Firefox gave me an option dialog box where (which folder) I can save the bookmarked page. Instead, now it says the page has automatically been saved and all the options I had before freezes up for 1-5 seconds and disappears.

Then I have to re-select the 'bookmark' tab then 'Edit bookmark' -- unlike before, the options box doesn't allow me to change the name of the bookmarked page, and seldom allows me to choose which folder to save it to.

Then I have to painstakingly have to search where the bookmarks are in the library.

I really don't understand why every time I upgrade to a new version of Firefox, basic (great) features of Firefox become defective?

Thanks for your help!
