Send always tries to attach a non-existent file, then won't send.

Whenever I try to send a new message or a reply, a TB dialog pops-up and says it is attaching a (non-existent) file, then another dialog says it has stopped responding (in parenthesis), then a third dialog says "Sending of message failed. Please verify that your Mail & Newsgroups account settings are correct and try again." My account settings ARE correct, I have updated the program to the latest version, uninstalled and reinstalled the program, and everything I can think of except deleting the user and recreating the account, since I don't want to lose all my messages in the database for my account. This started suddenly today, after I deleted some 66,000 messages from the junk folder. I also compressed (or packed or whatever) the database, and that didn't fix it. Something has scrambled it's brains, and in some message-sending specification file somewhere, some instruction went undeleted or unmodified or something and now it thinks it has to attach a (now nonexistent) file before it sends ANY message. I can still receive new messages, but I can't send any. What do I have to do? Delete or edit a file someplace, or what?

Attaching what non existent file?

have you tried with email scanning disabled in your anti virus program (the single greatest cause of mail not sending)?
