New Install of Thunderbird, try to use and get this error message: Thunderbird.app can't be opened because the identity of the developer cannot be confirmed.

I have Mac OS X 10.9.5 Mavericks installed on my MacBook. I just downloaded Thunderbird 31.1.2 and installed it. When I try to open the program, I get the error that Thunderbird.app can't be opened because the identity of the developer cannot be confirmed.

I wanted to try out the program, apparently there is some sort of a problem. Is there a resolution for this problem that will allow the program to be used?

There's a similar bug for Firefox that produces the error, Firefox.app can't be opened because the identity of the developer cannot be confirmed.

In case it helps, see this Firefox article (and the related discussion):

Just substitute "Thunderbird" for Firefox" in the instructions.
