I've always been able to quickly click on & drag a message to file it in a folder on the left. Upgraded to a new macbook pro & it just stopped. I used migration assistant transferring all data files etc. to the new mac, a mirror image. The old laptop still lets me drag messages, but the new one. Have I missed some simply setting? Put the File button on the main toolbar and use that. You can move messages from any folder to any other folder, and you can even transfer them to a folder in a different account.
