If you have problems with current Shockwave Flash plugin versions then check this:

  • see if there are updates for your graphics drive drivers

https://support.mozilla.org/kb/upgrade-graphics-drivers-use-hardware-acceleration

  • disable protected mode in the Flash plugin (Flash 11.3+ on Windows Vista and later)

  • disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin

Is it the Flash player or the HTML5 player? If you right-click the player to call up the context menu, the last item on the menu will indicate Flash or HTML5.

Does the system use Windows 7? Check the volume mixer. Start some media playing in Firefox, then click the volume icon in the notification area of the Windows Taskbar, then click Mixer and Windows should show volume control for individual applications. Is Firefox or Flash muted or turned way down?
