I am trying to setup a new email account in Thunderbird, and during the setup, it asks for the encryption type and I chose "STARTTLS" and re-test, it went ok. Then I click on Done and it says the username/password is wrong. Then I chose encryption type "None" and it went through, and I can receive/send emails. Then I change the encryption type to "STARTTLS" and it can't receive email again.

I tried this on my friend's computer with encryption "STARTTLS" and it worked. It seemed the Thunderbird on my computer is having issue with the secure connection. I then uninstall/install Thunderbird on my computer and the same issue stays.

I am exhausted with this and can't fix it. Please help me.

  • I've had sim issues results. I'd stay with "None" .. Unless.. STARTLS necessary. Might check properties and compare with friend's compruter. i'd save program while en "NONE" &Check Settings. Else i pray and 3 Oms! [Superstitious Comprutor] buen suerté=good luck! SL7~~~~

Check with your email provider what the correct settings are. They probably do have a support web site where that information is available. STARTTLS is not necessarily the only possibility to set up a secure connection. You could have the port wrong as well.

In any case, using a secure connection is highly recommended. If the provider doesn't support it I'd look for a different provider.

I'd stay with "None" .

I think that's bad advice.
