Addon to make pinned tabs permanent

Occasionally when I manually shut down FF, it won't remember my pinned tab. I believe in the past I used an addon to force this to be remembered, but now I want to try it again, I don't remember its name, and a search turned up way too many extensions offering to do this and that. This is ALL I want to do with this addon--force FF to remember my pinned tab(s) every time I open it up.

Does anyone know of a good extension for this?

This extension?

Some information:

App (pinned) tabs and Tab Groups (Panorama) are stored as part of the session data in the sessionstore.js file in the Firefox profile folder.

Firefox uses the sessionstore.js file in the profile folder to store session data, but this file is only present when Firefox is closed. The sessionstore.js file is created from recovery.js when you close Firefox and is removed and copied to previous.js when you start Firefox to make is possible to restore the session at any time.

Backup the session files in the sessionstore-backups folder in the Firefox Profile Folder to make sure not to lose possible important session data. Do NOT close Firefox when Firefox is already running.

You can find these files in the sessionstore-backups folder:

previous.js (cleanBackup: copy of sessionstore.js from previous session that was loaded successfully)
recovery.js (latest version of the sessionstore written during runtime)
recovery.bak (previous version of the sessionstore written during runtime)
upgrade.js-<build_id> (backup created during an upgrade of Firefox)

You can copy a file from the sessionstore-backups folder to the main profile and rename the file to sessionstore.js to replace the current file (make a backup copy of the current sessionstore.js).

Thanks for the recommendation, but it didn't work (the addon). I "grabbed" the tab (it is listed in the options menu), but after closing out all tabs, then restarting FF, nothing happened.

The extension stores the pinned tabs as a pref in prefs.js, so any problems with this file will get the pinned tabs to get lost.

  • user_pref("extensions.apptabinitializer.urilist", "about:about,about:config");

Did you at least closed Firefox once after setting the tabs as pinned?

To avoid issues you can consider to copy the involved line to user.js, but remember to update this file after every change to pinned tabs saved by the extension.
