Signature disappears when switching identity when writing email

When I switch identity whilst writing an email my signature disappears if I have copy pasted text into the email, but not if I have typed it.

I have set up a signature for both identities.

It is very frustrating as there seems to be no way to add a signature once writing an email only from the account settings.

Any help would be much appreciated.

This occurs because when you copy paste from another document eg: Word, you are inserting a load of html code, most is totally unnecessary, but that is MS for you ! So it overwrites the signature.

There is a work around which works perfectly ok in these situations when you need to reinsert a signature.

I use an addon extension called: Signature Switch

How to Install Add-on Extension: After downloading addon extension *.xpi file to desktop or downloads folder.

In Thunderbird 'Tools' > 'Add-ons' or 'Menu icon' > 'Add-ons'

  • Click on gear wheel icon and select 'Install Add-on From File'.
  • Locate the *.xpi file you downloaded and click on 'Open'.
  • You many need to restart Thunderbird when prompted.

Then you need to put the Signature switch icon onto the Composition toolbar.

  • Click on 'Write'
  • 'View' > 'Toolbars' > select 'Customise'
  • left click and hold down to grab the 'signature' icon and drag it onto the toolbar. Release the mouse to drop.
  • close the 'Customise' window'.

See images below.

There will also be signature switch options available under: 'Options' > 'Signature Switch' > 'Options'

where you can add your precreated html signatures.

then use the Signature Switch icon to select a signature. I have one set up in the Account Settings to point to a signature html file, but I created several others which I can swap about and use via Signature Switch.
