My sent items appear in subfolders but not in the main sent folder
Everything I send from multiple accounts shows up in the individual sent folders, but the unified sent folder has nothing in it, except a blue wheel of death, a bunch of greyed out stars for favorites, and grey circles under "Read" and "Junk"

Goto the Help menu -> Troubleshooting Information -> Show Folder button to display the profile in explorer or finder. Close Thunderbird Open the mail folder
Delete the folder smart mailboxes in the mail folder.
Restart Thunderbird.
That will force the recreation of the whole unified folder settings.
