I use a Mac and I do not use Google Chrome and I don't know if I can follow the instructions already available - one of the users still had the problem after following them... And why did you position the tabs above the address bar anyway? What good does that do? I find it completely unlogic... I find it very annoying and I absolutely hate it, that Firefox looks different after every update, just like the Apple software does since some years. This is why I avoid doing updates as long as possible... Why did you remove the button "open new tab" and why are there no more seperators available? All very annoying. I loved Firefox now I just like it...

As for decisions: I think (but am not sure - after all, people answering question aren’t developers do don’t always know unless they find their way through bugs) UI changes are a result of thorough investigation on user wishes, metrics and ergonomics / user-friendliness, not because some devs want it, or to look like other browsers.

The "open new tab" button was not removed (unless you referred to a very old Firefox), the + sign aka New Tab icon is still there (but can be dragged to/from the Customize dialog), and you can use multiple separators / flexible spaces if that’s what you meant.

Firefox is (still) the most customizable browser, so all your wishes can still come true. For your issue, you can just add a userChrome.css file with a tiny piece of code. Please see this question for instructions. Feel free to use the small code or download the file linked to.
