Message Filters has greyed out the "Body" option; impossible to create filters which scan email body in v68.3.1?
My most effective spam filtering rules no longer work, as it seems impossible to search "Body" for content as of v68? See the attached screengrab. Why has this been eliminated? Any way to get it back beyond downgrading?

Are you using version 68.3.1 ?
Do you get the same issue if you start Thunderbird in Safe Mode ?
Are you performing the filter on an IMAP account ? Do you download full copy of emails or only headers ?
Are you using a MAC ? If yes, what version ? eg: Mac OS 10.13.6 and English British version of Thunderbird
Hi there Toad Hall, I'm running Mac High Sierra 10.13.6. Thunderbird v68.3.1.
Curiously, my wife's laptop is running the same version of High Sierra and Thunderbird, and her "Body" option isn't greyed out!
So I reinstalled Thunderbird 68.3.1 on my machine over the current version in Applications; no change.
Very strange! I'm not sure which "ENG/British" version I'm using?
I tried Safe Mode. No change. Very curiously, the "Body" option is greyed out for the filter rules for one primary email account; for my secondary email account, "Body" still shows as an option! So very odd.
I've no idea what to do as I've tried reinstalling, safe mode, etc?
The question was already asked: are you downloading full message bodies or just the headers? Tools/Account Settings, select Synchronization & Storage for the primary account. If 'Keep messages in all folders...' is not checked, you aren't downloading the bodies.
Yep, I have that box checked, and I am thus downloading bodies.
Just for 'fun', delete the Body rule by clicking the box with -, restart TB, and see if adding Body to the filter is working. Sometimes, a single safe mode session is enough to reset things and fix an odd issue with no apparent solution.
Tried that. No success. Sadly, I come back, and Body is still not in the list. I can pretend to make a "Custom" header that I name "Body", but that doesn't make any sense, because I can also create a Custom header called "Schmeezil", and that obviously suggests that the contents of that field have no bearing on my filter's function.
And yes this is IMAP
Is this filter being applied to a top-level folder, e.g. Inbox, or a subfolder?
Being applied to the top level folder Inbox, and sometimes to the selected larger Gmail account address (hence all folders).
It's so mind boggling that "Body" appears as a menu item for one email address account and not the other, all in the same session.
Is there some reinstall method that could fix this?
Reinstalling the program probably won't help, but I suggest you create a new profile, add the account, and see if the Body filter menu works as expected. If it does, it indicates there's some unknown factor in the old profile that is the source of the problem.
Help/Troubleshooting Information, about:profiles, to create a new profile. The old profile is unaffected, and can be launched in TB from the about:profiles tab.
