Outgiong server (SMTP) timed out
I have used mozilla for many years. I know out to reset outgoing server timed out problems. It often happened when I changed my gmail or google passwords. I have the security on my gmail reduced to allow thunderbird. I have pop.gmail.com. I have tried various ports and connection security settings and authentification methods. I currently have server name smtp.gmail.com Port is 465. Connection is SSL/TLS Authentification is oAuth2. No matter how I reset it, it gives me timed out messages and won't send. And so I send it in gmail. Then later, it works to send some emails in thunderbird and 5 minutes later, I get "The message could not be sent because the connection to Outgoing server (SMTP) smtp.gmail.com timed out. Try again" Why would it work on one email and not the next? I have never had this many problems. What are the settings that work with pop.mail? I am ready to give up and just live with gmail!

Newer Gmail accounts won't work with Thunderbird 31 and older versions because these versions don't support Google's authentication (bug 849540 contains the full technical details). Please make sure that you are using Thunderbird 38 or newer before configuring your account. In case, the above is not your case, please cross the steps, using this article: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/thunderbird-and-gmail#w_configuring-your-gmail-account

What's the security/AV app, and what are the settings for scanning email or the TB profile folder? Timeouts are often caused by AV scanning outgoing mail. A VPN is another cause, if you're using one.
