Thunderbird & Gmail
Hi I am trying to help a friend who has been using TB for years without issue. She's now seeing many of her downloaded messages/folders being deleted in front of her whenever she opens up the program & it starts syncing. It's correctly set-up as IMAP - no settings have been changed knowingly for years. If you log-in to Gmail online the folders are no longer there either. Again no changes have knowingly been made to any Gmail settings. No problem with gmail storage space either. Vers 78.8.1. We do have a year old backup of the profile so some recovery may be possible from this but the way things appear to be once TB starts syncing these recovered folders will be deleted again. Any ideas ??

Update: After reading many posts on this & similar issues I deleted
folderTree.json panacea.dat session.dat xulstore.json
& re-started TB - offline. Magic! - everything back to normal...... for about 10 minutes then ALL the folders/sub-folders & mails disappeared from screen apart from inbox, sent & trash - but all empty.... Do I need to re-start online ? I'm frightened this might mess up the Gmail server.
I'm not using her Pc, I've set up TB on mine using her profile so that rules out any malware etc.
Help please - somebody ???
Just a guess, but folders in IMAP accounts (other than inbox) disappear when there is no connection to the mail server, if this is happening after 10 minutes than it is possible that is another device that is connecting every 10 minutes and blocking all other connections (Product with the apple logo on the back are very prone to using ALL available connections to make them look fast) , or an anti virus product that is choking on being used for more than 10 minutes, or a myriad of other possible connection problems, but the other device and anti virus are the most common.
