I am adding a gmail account on Thunderbird and I am asked to enter credentials for the account on a gmail page that pops up (attached). After I write the email address and click on continue, I am asked to write the email address again I(instead of being asked to write the password).

Is this a new install of Thunderbird or have you had it going for a while minus this account? Are cookies allowed in Thunderbird's preferences? Which version of Thunderbird are you running? Are you behing a firewall on your network?
