Using older/Ubuntu profile in Thunderbird 78 on MX Linux

more options

I have changed from Ubuntu to MX Linux recently and have kept my Thunderbird profile data.

On MX TB 78 is installed.

When I copy the Ubuntu TB profile folder to my new MX install and start Thunderbird I get a message saying that "You have launched an older version of Thunderbird" (which is not the case, I launched versions 78) and that I can either create a new profile or quit the program..... Not very useful.

How can I use/import the data from my previous (Ubuntu) install? It seems likely that I had version 78 on Ubuntu as well, my system was up-to-date, but of course I can't check that anymore.

Thanks

T.

Well update the installed Thunderbird on your distro. If they can not manage it you can download it from

https://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/all/

V78 is years old. Your Ubuntu would have been using V91 I would guess. They update often.

I did not realize that a new install of Linux would ship with such an old TB version. That's where the confusion started.

There is no newer version available in the standard repos, so I downloaded version 91 from mozilla and installed it according instructions. So far that seems to work.

Probably Ubuntu was indeed more up to date.

Thanks for pointing this out.

For future updates I would need to keep an eye on mozilla and do it manually every time?

cheers,

T.
