Hello,

I use Thunderbird 128.5.2esr with xubuntu 24.04.

All of a sudden (I haven't changed anything) thunderbird hangs completely after a few minutes running. The process does not react at all, I have to kill it. Thunderbird process is then stuck on 100% load.

Already testet (with no success):

  • Troubleshooting Mode with deactivated Addons
  • Disabled Global Indexing (with deleting global-messages-db.sqlite file)
  • Waiting for 20min (in case thread/process is running a long time)
  • Reboot OS

I have no idea what the issue is. Does anyone have ideas? Thx, Hugo

I think all the uninstall, reinstall with snap, uninstall snap and so on had nothing to do with the problem. Moving the thunderbird-profile from veracrypt to just /home/.../.thunderbird/xyz did it

installed through what method?

Installed through apt (not snap).

But I could "solve" it:

  1. Uninstall thunderbird
  2. Install thunderbird through snap
  3. Ran into error that thunderbird process is already running (but there is none). This is a known problem, because my thunderbird-profile was on an encrypted veracrypt container and snap cannot access non-home files
  4. moved thunderbird-profile to /home/.thunderbird/xyz
  5. reinstalled thunderbird through apt (removed snap version)

Thunderbird runs normally

So reinstalling using the same method helped?

Excellent. That fits then with the bug report I cited.
