A few selection of websites after fully loading become blank and start an infinite loop of loading. I reinstalled firefox once already and the problem persists. What can I do?

Thanks for posting back with a solution. Although at the moment you can not mark the question as solved by using the helpful button alongside your own posts.

From reading the question I think you referred to : How do I read web pages hung by the status bar notation "Read gostats.com" http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/751702 It appears to me, if I understood those posts correctly, that the problem may be caused by security software interacting with sites using gostats.com for tracking purposes.

The problem seems to be related to JavaScript, for after I disabled it on Firefox, the problem seems to have stopped.

Have you seen

Of course the problem may relate to Javascript, in which case try

You will get an infinite loop if you select firefox to open a file that you download. Check how all file types are handled. Start by setting them all to always ask as the action.

There seems to be no solution in that Java-related issues topic for my case. I have my Java up to date.

I also ran it on safe mode and the problem persisted. Basic troubleshooting didn't help either.

The infinite loop isn't related to file downloading in my case. It happens whenever a page is fully loaded. Happens on several websites: youtube, eurogamer and other related websites.

Sorry I do not know what the problem may be.
If no-one comes up with better ideas of what causes this then my questions and suggestions:

What do you mean by an infinite loop ?
The page loads and then goes blank. What exactly happens next, does the page fully load and fully display again before going blank, and repeat this cycle endlessly in the same tab.

You do say the problem persisted in safe-mode and you had looked at the basic troubleshooting article. Buy that you can stop the problem by disabling javascript.

  • did you disable all plugins - and did you still get the problem then ?

As you mention disabling javascript stops the problem, have you tried with
Java script enabled but

  • block popups ON
  • load images automatically OFF
  • advanced options - ALL OFF
What happens do you get the problem then or not.

While on this firefox site if I look at the error console Ctrl+Sift+J or Tools -> Error console If I clear the console content and reload the webpage the error console shows only a couple of messages. YouTube home page give a lot of yellow triangle warnings about 200, but no red warnings, do you get red warnings.

You could also try on the problem sites eg YouTube changing the permissions with tools -> Page Info | Permissions

Did you try the Basic Troubeshooting suggestion of making a new profile. (Heeding the warning not to delete settings, otherwise you loose all bookmarks etc) did that help ?

When a page loads fully (the loading bar down on the lower right corner), the page switches to a blank page, and up top on the tab bar, the little circle turning indicates that the page is loading. And it doesn't move from there on, only sometimes when I press back does it show the page again. Stopping the page from fully loading with the Stop button does seem to stop it from turning into a blank page, as does disabling JavaScript.

Yes, I tried disabling all plugins.

I have also tried, without success to:

  1. block popups ON
  2. load images automatically OFF
  3. advanced options - ALL OFF

Yes, I did get one red error loading the youtube page. Erro: _GoStatsRun is not defined Ficheiro de origem: http://searchlivestyle.info/ga.js Linha: 4

I have also tried messing around with permitions, and nothing.

Yes, I have tried all the basic troubleshooting.

I have found the solution:

"Install add-on Adblock Plus, then when firefox restarts click on the arrow on the right side of the ABP icon and select open blockable items, on the bottom side of browser will be shown list of possible items to block, scroll down until you see "www.google-analytics.com", select it and then right-click it and select "block this item"

That should do the trick, it worked for me."

If the website doesn't show up on the list of items, just click on the preferences, and add a filter with "www.google-analytics.com".

I didn't know the problem was gostats.com, else I would have referred it sooner.

Yes, for what it seems, there is some kind of conflict between gostats and my security software, for some reason. Nevertheless, the problem seems to be solved, thanks anyway for the suggestions.
