I recently downloaded Firfox 4, which is constantly freezing up. What is going on, nothing has changed on my end.

I am constantly getting "unresponsive script" prompts, and even though I cancel the script, Firefox stays frozen/unresponsive, and even if I try to shut down to restart it takes a long time! This has happened in the middle of emails (gmail), navigating to a web page during a business call...at poorly timed times. I have not changed anything on my end. If I cannot get this remedied, am I going to have to go back to Explorer? Ugh! Please help me... Is there a way to go back to an earlier version of Firefox when I didn't have this problem? Thank you.

If you do plan to go back to 3.6.* you can get Firefox 3.6.16 at http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html

Please do not get Firefox from sites like oldapps or filehippo or such when there is no need for any version.

This is a real let down! Mozilla has provided such a wonder browser over the years. It's disappointing that they would release a version that not only is not compatible to several common add-ons, but even more embarrassing, it's "not responding" lockups are reminiscent to Microsoft Vista! How humiliating!?

I hope Mozilla will be more cautious in the future. Better safe than sorry!

On the positive side, the layout in ver. 4.0 is much nicer. Unfortunately, for now I plan to role back to ver. 3.x until they resolve these issues.

Thank you - I thought I was the only one having this problem! I just rolled back to the previous version!

4.0 changed my toolbars, lost icons, and interferred with RoboForm. I followed your link and went back to 3.6.16. I need to warn my wife. I've always told her to trust FireFox. my error.

I also had to go back to version 3.6.16. I have never had a complaint about Firefox until now. Makes me wonder if they've hired some former Vista techs!

I never used Vista, this was a new experience for me- thanks so much for being a kindred spirit. I hope they fix the new version! I have been using the older version and I am so happy!

Not a happy camper either. FF4:

1) took away some of the functionality at the Toolbars 2) provided no heads-up for the changes 3) immediately developed this "NOT RESPONDING" behavior 4) why do I have to read here where to go to for downshifting?

So far 3.6.16 has been not-responding-free but this is less than 10 minutes! I will keep my fingers crossed...

PS ran FF4 and now 3.6.16 on Windows 7, the 64 bit flavor.

Glad to see it is not only my issue. Looks like they neglected to beta test FF4

Thanks for the roll-back info. I've regretted 4.0 within a 1/2-hour after the "UPGRADE"; apparently used as a euphemism by the Marketing Team. The security warning pop-ups alone are enough to send me back to IE, ugh... Their software doesn't even trust their own site 'cause I had to do the 5 clicks to clear support.mozilla.com??? Thanks for the link to the functioning version.

I downloaded Firefox 4.0 as soon as it was available a few months ago. (Or whenever) It worked great!! But it went to hell in a handbag when I downloaded a Java update on 4/8/11. I've had all of the problems listed in the above messages. Have gone back to Firefox 3.6 and all seems to right with the world again. If the techie guys read these I don't know if the Java thing is pertinent or not but I thought I'd put in my 2 cents worth. I run Window XP Pro and Comcast is my internet provider. Thanks!!

Firefox 4 is pants,

Just freezes all the time,

Dear Firefox have you been employing developers who used to work for microsoft by anychance ? I'd sack them if I were you !

Its a shame because Firefox has been top of most league tables for a few years now. I dont think you will be in a few months time as more and more people upgrade.

I've gone back to my old browser for the time being. Please get it sorted.
