I have removed Google from my search engine several times yet it continues to reappear. How do I removed Google permanently?

The URL to add in "keyword.URL" becomes a link in this post, so right click it and choose "Copy Link Location" to copy it to the Windows clipboard. Then hit CTRL+V to paste it. Saves you having to type the whole thing.

To reset your home page, do the following.

  • Go to the site you want to set as your homepage.

  • Click the orange Firefox button and go to Options | Options | General (Firefox 4.0.x and above).

  • Go to Tools | Options | General (Previous version of Firefox).

  • Make sure it says "Show My Homepage" in the first dropdown menu.

  • Click the button called "Use Current Pages" to set the homepage to the one you have on the screen.

After you complete the above steps, install this add-on to prevent another search engine from modifying your preferences: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/browserprotect/

If one of the above search engines is not to your taste either, add the one you do want, but add /search?p= to the end of the URL to it otherwise it won't work.

Thanks for the response...

I did as asked. I also went into "manage search engines" again and deleted Google. I closed and re-opened Firefox and Google reappeared again as primary search engines even though I selected Bing as my search engines with your steps.

I appreciate your help.

Could you go back to about:config again and then in keyword.URL, remove the current Bing URL and replace it with this one: http://www.bing.com/search?q=

  • Next, in the filter at the top, copy/paste: browser.search.selectedEngine

  • Right click it and choose Modify.

  • Remove Google and replace it with Bing

Thanks again for your continued suggestions...

I did as asked... and Google continues to re-appear after close and reopen my browser... I'm thinking of dumping Firefox all together... Though I like it, I don't trust Google...

Thanks...
