Firefox crashes randomly out of nowhere. I tried all the steps, and it still crashes.

Hey corinne22,

Have you tried starting Firefox in Safe Mode? Hold down "shift" while Firefox is starting up. If the crash doesn't happen in Safe Mode, you should read Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems.

There is also a lot of useful stuff in the Troubleshoot Firefox crashes (closing or quitting unexpectedly) Knowledge Base article. If you've recently upgraded, you might want to check out this article as well.

Hopefully this helps!

I didn't upgrade., Actually, I had the latest version of firefox, and I had to downgrade it to 3.6.27 because I have online classes, and it uses (blackboard). So, its not compatible with the latest firefox, so i basically had to downgrade it. And ever since then, it crashes unexpectedly, and it even caused my laptop to get the blue screen error. I even upgraded the plugins that had to be updated, but for some reason, it still says that it "needs to update"

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.

If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

Instead of creating a profile, can't I just delete the only profile that is shown in the "user file"?

more options

If you delete your current profile then you lose all your personal data like bookmarks and password, so if you need to preserve any data then make a backup before deleting the profile content via the profile manager.
Don't just delete the profile folder on disk because in that case the profile is still present in the profiles.ini file and thus shows in the profile manager and can lead to error messages (profile not found or in use).

You asked, Instead of creating a profile, can't I just delete the only profile that is shown in the "user file"?

Deleting the profile folder (e.g., C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxxxxxxx.default on Windows 7 ) will cause an error like cor-el says. However, another option is to create a new default profile by renaming the profiles.ini file located inside the Firefox folder ... or simply renaming the Firefox folder that contains it to FirefoxOLD (renaming a file or folder is a better option than deleting it). I really appreciate all the help that you guys are giving me, but, I just don't want to risk messing anything up, such as errors coming up, etc.. Isn't there another way to do this? I had uninstalled firefox, and re-installed it, to see if the problem persisted (which it did). When I uninstalled firefox, I even selected the option to remove personal data and customizations. I don't have any favorites, passwords, nothing saved onto firefox. When I had the latest version of firefox, I never had any problems. Just recently when I downgraded it. Why is it that when I had uninstalled firefox, the problem continues to exist? Is it that the profile is still saved onto my computer? Isn't there a way to complete delete any contents associated with firefox? So then, I can install it with no problems???

You said, When I uninstalled firefox, I even selected the option to remove personal data and customizations. so the problem isn't with the Firefox profile and creating a new profile won't help.

Here is the crash report, by the way, from the report ID you gave in "more system details" (I don't see anything helpful but maybe someone else can):

P.S. It's possible that an add-on from a location outside of Firefox is causing the crashes. Since you have Firefox 3.6 installed, try starting in Firefox Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode using the Start menu shortcut. In Windows, open the All Programs list, click on the yellow Mozilla Firefox folder and then click on "Mozilla Firefox (Safe Mode)" to see if Firefox starts up with the "Firefox Safe Mode" dialog. If it does, select the "Disable all add-0ns" option and then click "Make Changes and Restart" which will restart Firefox with all plugins and extensions disabled. See the Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode article for details.
