navigation toolbar does not update

more options

abruptly my firefox navigation toolbar stopped updating. i can go to bookmarks ok, but once there the toolbar lists the old address. likewise if i click on something that takes me to a new place, again the toolbar does not update. how do i get the navigation toolbar to correctly list the current URL?

i have checked the tools > options > privacy

which says Firefox will remember history and when using the location bar, suggest history and bookmarks

so this does not appear to be the problem. what else can i try?

Similar problems have been reported in the past. The #1 suspect is an add-on. But which one??

These older threads pointed the finger at IE Tab / IE Tab Plus:

You may want to review your extensions and disable any that are not essential, then restart Firefox and see whether that helps:

orange Firefox button or classic Tools menu > Add-ons
