There are hot spots on many pages that weren't programmed in by the webmaster of that page. Most of these hot spots are advertisements. How can I turn them off?

You can look at Adblock Plus to hide double underlined IntelliTXT type pop-ups.

You need to subscribe to a Filter list (e.g. the EasyList).

Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.
You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

You can also do a check for a rootkit infection with TDSSKiller.
