On Feb. 6 updater.exe prevented me from accessing the web. I could read emails, but could not search the web. So I deleted updater and could access the web. Then on Feb. 7 when updater.exe was loaded on my computer again, the same problem occurred, so I deleted it and was able to access the web.

One of the most common reasons people cannot get to any website after an update is a feature of their security software that blocks changed software. Check out this article to see whether that is relevant:

I am not a techie so I am unable to understand the suggestions about how to fix my problem. All I know is that when updater.exe is downloaded to my system, it shuts down my access to the internet. When I delete it, my system works. All other Firefox uploads have worked before; why doesn't this one? Even my Norton Security says it is safe.

Another way to update is to run the full Firefox installer, available here:

https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/fx/#desktop

You do not need to uninstall Firefox before running the new installer. However, you will need to exit Firefox completely, and you're not guaranteed to be able to resume your session where you left off, so it's a good idea to complete anything you're working on.

Me too. I fix it by re-installing Firefox.

Note that current Firefox installers for Windows may download a stub if you click a green Download button.

As per your recommendation I have installed the latest release 22.0. So far, so go. Will report further if any problems surface. Thanks for advice.
