Firefox 28 Crashes Repeatedly After Update
Beginning on the 19th, sometime after updating to FF 28, the browser is crashing within seconds after opening it. I have to quickly restart in Safe Mode and then it will work...for awhile. But then it will eventually crash again. I re-installed but it made no difference. I really do not want to Reset if I don't have to. I'd almost rather switch back to IE (and I HATE IE) than reset and lose all my settings etc. I am on an HP desktop PC, running Windows 7 (64-bit). Here is a list of my crash reports beginning from the 19th:

Hey there,
Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a Clean reinstall. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
Note: You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
BACKUP YOUR DATA before doing this using MozBackup
- Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
- After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
- Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
- Windows:
- C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
- C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
- Mac: Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
- Linux: If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see Install Firefox on Linux. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder firefox in your home directory.
- Windows:
- Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
- Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
- Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
More information about reinstalling Firefox can be found here.
RESTORE YOUR DATA using MozBackup
Hope this helps!

I followed your directions, but it didn't change anything. FF crashed within seconds of opening it and I had to Restart in Safe Mode to get it to stay open. Any other ideas?
ArtChick,
There is a current bug open on this issue, bug 985121 that was supposedly fixed in Firefox 28. Please don't comment on the bug report unless you have something constructive to add. :)
Can you get me your troubleshooting info by following the steps below?:
- Click the Firefox button at the top left, then click the Help menu and select Troubleshooting Information from the submenu. If you don't have a Firefox button, click the Help menu at the top and select Troubleshooting Information from the menu.
Now, a new tab containing your troubleshooting information should open.
- At the top of the page, you should see a button that says "Copy text to clipboard". Click it.
- Now, go back to your forum post and click inside the reply box. Press Ctrl+V to paste all the information you copied into the forum post.
If you need further information about the Troubleshooting information page, please read the article Use the Troubleshooting Information page to help fix Firefox issues.
Can you also try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox (you need to close and restart Firefox).
- Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"
As requested, my Troubleshooting Info is below. I am also going to disable Hardware Acceleration immediately after posting this reply. If it has any effect, I'll update my reply. Thanks for your continued help.

You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox (you need to close and restart Firefox).
- Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"
UPDATE: I just disabled Hardware Acceleration and so far (fingers crossed) FF has NOT crashed since restarting it. If that is the problem, is this something I need to leave disabled permanently?
