The latest update to Thunderbird seems to have changed something so that the connection to IMAP Server times out. Any new messages that downloaded but weren't viewed has "Loading Message" in status bar. When it finally disappears downloadable content (web linked) does not show. In addition, I can no longer send emails. The server times out. Worked fine yesterday.

To diagnose problems with Thunderbird, try the following:

If safe mode for the operating system fixes the issue, there's other software in your computer that's causing problems. Possibilities include but not limited to: AV scanning, virus/malware, background downloads such as program updates.

The problem seems to have resolved itself. I initially did a reboot just to see if that made a difference. It didn't. Then I shut down and left for a while to enjoy the real world. When I came back and booted up half the day later Thunderbird worked like always and is fine this AM. Go figure.
