I download a file from a website. I get the window w option open or save. I click save. Window closes but no green arrow. (I think) File doesn't show at chosen location. Nor in the download library. Same procedure does work in ME.

It is possible that anti-virus software is corrupting downloaded files or is interfering otherwise.

Try to disable the real-time (live) scanning of files in your anti-virus software temporarily to see if that makes downloading work.

See:

Note that in Private Browsing mode you only see the downloads on the about:downloads page temporarily and not in the Library.

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in permanent Private Browsing mode (Never remember history).

  • Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history"
  • Deselect: [ ] "Always use Private Browsing mode"
