there should be an option to disable the tab loading animation because it uses too much resources and crashes the whole thing? it should just have a red icon instead of the loading animation - if the page has loaded up, the red icon should dissapear also

That spinning loading icon shouldn't cause that much CPU load.

You can try to disable OMTC and leave hardware acceleration in Firefox enabled.

  • about:config page: layers.offmainthreadcomposition.enabled = false

You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"

You need to close and restart Firefox after toggling this setting.

if you have 100+ tabs open and you add couple of loading ones, it will eventually crash with a frozen animation...
