Did you recently update firefox?
firefox updated itself from 36.0.1 to 36.0.4 on the 23rd of march might have happened then...
how can i fix the file?
thank u!

A JSON file is viewable in a text editor. The actual passwords are scrambled, so those won't be readable. What someone might be able to suggest, however, is some way to check whether there is a simple structural problem with the JSON data format, such as a missing comma or bracket, that could be repaired to make the file readable again.
You can open the file in the Scratchpad (Firefox/Tools > Web Developer). Click the "Pretty Print" button to format the file
You can also try to validate the file.

hmmm, so i opened the file with textedit and it is full of this signs:
there is also some normal text in between and it seems it is my passwords... if i delete all the weird signs it still doesnt work, as its missing some of the code. maybe if i know the form of the header file and just copy paste it from somewhere?
or is there a way to extract all the passwords from the old 'signons.sqlite' file? its little more than a year old, but better than nothing :)
also i had firefox sync set up, but it seems that there are no passwords there either. is there a way to see what is uploaded on the firefox sync account, or maybe if there are some history versions?
thank u for your help!
If you have a copy of the signons.sqlite file and the matching key3.db file then you can try to force Firefox to migrate passwords saved in this file (you will lose passwords saved in logins.json).
You can force Firefox to reimport the passwords from the signons.sqlite file and rebuild the logins.json file with these steps:
- reset the signon.importedFromSqlite pref on the about:config page to the default value via the right-click context menu
- delete the logins.json file in the Firefox profile folder with Firefox closed
When you restart Firefox then you should have the signon.importedFromSqlite pref with the value set to true and you should have the passwords imported in the Password Manager unless there may have been errors.
"I'll be careful, I promise!" hahaha, i love it!
