I found the issue, trial and error. The problem was Multirow Bookmark Manager was not compatible with the current version of Firefox. I un-installed it and all was fine. Thanks for the swift response guys!

no need to drag to the bookmark toolbar just click on the start at the top of the toolbar and your website will be automatically bookmarked.

Although you can't drag the address, you should be able to drag the "site identity button", which is the globe or padlock to the left of the address. Does that still work on your Firefox?

There are some extensions which are causing issues with bookmarking features in Firefox 40. These include Tab Mix Plus, IE Tab/IE Tab 2/etc., and Tree Style Tab. if you have any of these extensions, then that might be the explanation.

Hi Ashish, clicking the star icon adds the bookmark to "Unsorted Bookmarks" and not to the Bookmarks Toolbar. You can choose a new location for the bookmark by clicking the star again and using the Edit Bookmark panel. However, some users prefer to use drag-and-drop.

I drag the icon on a tab to the Bookmarks Toolbar, to save that page as a new Bookmark. iirc, it's been quite awhile since I was able to drag the URL to save a new Bookmark.
