my screen is very dim and this is a new computer using Windows 10. The screen had been very bright and now is difficult to read. The system had lots of trouble earlier. I turned off the computer for about an hour and one-half and now it is gray.

This sounds like an issue with Windows 10's Adaptive Brightness feature.

I would suggest going into:

  1. Settings
  2. Power Options
  3. Change Plan Settings
  4. Change Advanced Power Settings
  5. Scroll down to Display
  6. Select "Enable Adaptive Brightness"
  7. switch both selections to "OFF"

That being said, please keep in mind that this is a support forum for Mozilla Firefox, not Microsoft Windows, we will gladly help you with your Firefox issues but issues pertaining to Microsoft related products really should be directed to Microsoft Support or the Microsoft Community Forums.

I do hope this fixed your issue, if it did then please change your question to "Resolved" so that we know that this helped.

Sincerely, Kyle

I figured out the solution before your response, but am very appreciative for your help.
