Since AdBlock Plus for Firefox 45.0.21 is no longer supported, does anyone know of another good ad blocker for Firefox for Mac?

A current limitation with the AdBlock Plus is the following error message in the Preferences window: "Warning: Adblock Plus is either disabled or not installed. For this addon to work properly, you have to install or enable Adblock Plus."

I have installed and enabled the current version of Adblock Plus, and I've also uninstalled and reinstalled this Firefox extension. But I still receive the above noted warning message.

Thanks for any suggestions on replacements for Adblocker Plus.

That is a different extension - that is not Adblock Plus being discussed in that article.

Do you mean Firefox 45.0.1 or do you have a different version?

I'm surprised to hear that Adblock Plus can't be enabled on your Firefox. I don't see any outraged reports on its Reviews page so I don't think this is a widespread problem: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/adblock-plus/reviews/

Does its icon still appear on the toolbar as usual?

Maybe the problem is interference from another extension or theme. Could you review your entire list and disable ALL nonessential or unrecognized extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Command+Shift+a
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Extensions. Then cast a critical eye over the list on the right and, if in doubt, disable. (None of these are included with Firefox.)

Often a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.

Any improvement?

Oh, if you still want to look at alternatives, the uBlock Origin extension has been positively received: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/ublock-origin/

AblockPlus is I think the most popular addon for Firefox

A currently well thought of powerful alternative is

Maybe what you use is not one of these. I am certain we would have noticed if Adblock Plus had ceased to work with all Macs on Firefox 45

Sorry, I meant 45.0.1. No, Addblock Plus does NOT appear in the upper Toolbar.

I disabled all extensions except for Addblock Plus and it still doesn't work. So I removed Addblock Plus and installed uBlock which seems to be working fine for now. The link below explains why Addblock Plus is no longer supported in Firefox.

That website is for a different extension. The official site for Adblock Plus is here: https://adblockplus.org/

Thanks for the clarification.

I installed Adblock Plus from the link you provided and it works well, and without an error message.
