when we go on holidays we take a netbook and currently log on to talktalk and get our emails. i'm wondering whether i can set up the netbook to access emails from both accounts while we are away from home.

I'm certain you can set up the netbook to access emails from both accounts. The easiest would be to simply use webmail. But this has got nothing to do with Thunderbird.
