I also have this problem

Current attempted fixes:

  • Deleted google* cookies and cache
  • New profile
  • Disabled Addons
  • Fiddled with about:config
  • Started Firefox in safe mode (no change)
  • Refreshed firefox

DuckDuckGo works just fine as does the aforementioned add-on

System details:

  • Firefox 58.0b6
  • Ubuntu 17.04
