PC master boot file was corrupted and system had to undergo a total restore. All files were restored from Carbonite but when Firefox and Thunderbird were re-installed, the bookmarks were missing from Firefox along with all historical email records and address book.

Try to find the old profiles, they contain these things. They are located at the %APPDATA% folder – i.e. C:\Users\<your name>\AppData\Roaming, and under the Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles and Thunderbird\Profiles folders.

You can just copy the files and overwrite the new profiles, or use the Mozbackup tool.
