How long should the FireFox Installer take to replace a old version? Pop up message said it could not update and I agreed to reinstall. Download only gave a 307KB installer, then when I run it there were no instructions, it continually says Now Installing... with a bar that does not give any progress indication and under it a message such as "Faster Page Loading and Tab Switching" that does change. After a hour there is no other message but there has been a lot of CPU and disk activity. the only processes I can identify with it are Firefox Installer.exe with 1 thread and 1760KB committed memory, setup-stub.exe with 5 threads and 4744KB committed memory. Since I started looking, there has been little internet activity. I started IE to write this about 1 hour after the installer started and I will need to put it to sleep soon.

The problem of not being able to update occurred recently so, after letting the installer run for 2 hours, I repeated the instructions at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1194409 except deleting the Mozilla Firefox folder since I already have a good OldFirefox and don't know what damage Firefox Installer.exe may have caused. It worked with the Setup program requiring less than 2 minutes! Only problem was that when the new FireFox started, it wanted to DL the installer that did not work before. It seems that canceling the DL and just going on has worked. Someone needs to fix the installer so it can terminate with an error rather than hanging.

Some protection programs don't like the stub installer. Go here for the full installer.
