Dear Sir or Madam,

I cannot properly set-up an automated reply system with Thunderbird.

I have tried with plain text and no attachment, but every time it is generated, the original text gets corrupted with:

- plenty of text as: "=; A0=A0; =F2; =F8" in the email body

- the following sentence at the beginning of the email: "This is a multi-part message in MIME format. --------------21C6BBA2F8B4529F56CCA634 Content-Type: text/html; charset=iso-8859-15 Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable "

- and tons of extra text at the bottom, such as:

--------------21C6BBA2F8B4529F56CCA634 Content-Type: application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.spreadsheetml.sheet; name="Auto-valutazione del tuo CV.xlsx" Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64 Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="Auto-valutazione del tuo CV.xlsx" UEsDBBQABgAIAAAAIQDfz5sukgEAAJQGAAATANwBW0NvbnRlbnRfVHlwZXNdLnhtbCCi2AEo oAACAAAAAAAAAA[...]AAAAAAAzFXJTsMwEL0j8Q+Rr6hx KRJCqCkHliMgtXyAsaeNVce2PFNo/55JSitAIQjSA5dEWfw2P9vjq3XlshdIaIMvxGk+FBl4 HYz1i0I8ze4GFyJDUt4oFzwUYgMoribHR+PZJgJmPNpjIUqieCkl6hIqhXmI4PnLPKRKET+m hYxKL9UC5Gg4PJc6eAJPA6oxxGR8A3O1cpTdrvn1Vsmz9SK73v5XUxVCxeisVsRC5Ys3X0gG YT63GkzQq4qhc4wJlMESgCqXx2SZMU2BiI2hkJPxA5tO1kD2qBLdq4oZ5NpJYgewvZ7m7KGX ... etc.

I really don't know how to resolve this problem and I am quite surprised that it happens! Hope that you can fix this.

PS: as side problem, I constantly have to re-create my bin file because it gets corrupted at least once per month.

All the info you mention indicated that you are using HTML and attaching a document.

Q: What is the purpose of the automated reply? If it one you want to use because eg: you are away from the office ?

I would recommend you do not use Thunderbird. This should be set up via your webmail account accessed by using your browser. Why? Because you would need to leave your computer permanently switched on and logged into your User Account and thunderbird would need to be running. None of the above is exactly secure as anyone with access to that computer would get to see anything including all senstive and private data.

re : and tons of extra text at the bottom, That is the attachment.

Clearly, that sounds like the reply filter is still using an incorrect template email. Check your 'Templates' folder for old or not required template emails and delete them. then right click on 'Templates' folder and select 'Compact' to remove all 'marked as deleted' emails. Then recheck the filter to see which template it is using and modify as required.

If you are trying to set up a filter that detects a specific email and in that instance performs an auto reply using a template then do the following.

Open 'Write' Create new email and save as Template. Note the 'Subject' you enter will help you choose the correct template in the filters. Do not use the same data in 'Subject' as any other stored Template email.

  • Menu icon > Message Filters > MessageFilters
  • click on 'New'
  • type suitable filter name such as 'Reply-auto'

Apply filter when:

  • select 'Getting new mail'
  • select 'Match all of the following' if setting only one condition or if setting more than one but both must be true.

OR

  • select 'Match any of the following' if setting more than one condition and either could be true.

example:

  • 'From' and 'Contains' and type email address

Perform these actions:

  • 'Reply with Template' and choose the Template (which is based on email 'Subject')
  • click on 'OK

Note: filters at the top run first, so if filter is further down the list and another filter higher up acts on that email, then subsequent filters will not run.

  • Enable the filter.

Q: What settings do you have in this location: 'Menu icon ' >'Options' > 'Options' > 'Display' 'Formatting' tab click on 'Advanced' button Post image of 'fonts & encodings' window.

Also post image showing the settings you have for sending: 'Menu icon ' >'Options' > 'Options' > 'Composition' > 'General' tab click on 'Send Options' button see image
