I use Message Windows, I do not have the reading pane open.

I am also using unified folders as the default view.

My sorting is from newest email to oldest.

When I have a message window open, how to I achieve the default expected behavior of the previous and next buttons to walk through the message list and not do something stupid like jumping to the next unread message?

You can also use the F (forward) and B (back) keys to move through the messages that are displayed in a tab, window or message pane.
