How to display the count of unread messages in a collapsed thread (to decide if it is too long to read just now;-)

When trying to keep up with an active mailing list, I will arrange the messages by threads, and, even then, there are often too many to review, so one has to make choices. (I am using the Quick Filter, which provides the 'Unread' spectacles icon to scroll through the 3 options of all, unread thread tips (collapsed), expanded unread thread.) It's during the collapsed unread pahse I'm looking for the count.

When there are many threads, and I have just a few minutes, I could review part of a thread that has just a few messages in it. Having a count to the unread messages would allow the thread to be selected and read.

In the same vein, if a thread has many many messages, on a subject of lesser interest, it may be judicious to mark it all as ready.

The current "total" column gives the count of all the messages in a thread, not just the unread messages.

In the example, the thread with 122 message, when expanded as shown, only has three unread messages. A later thread has 38 messages, all unread, but I can't trust the 'total' value.

Is there a method for adding a column of "count of unread messages in thread" value?

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1242684#answer-1178937 is the only answer I've found that gets close to this problem of counting the number of unread messages in a long running thread.

I'd like to know if a thread is at 4/171 (4 unread of 171 in thread), or at 141/171 (141 unread of 171 in thread).

Today I have 1038 unread emails in a particular mailing list (~1 week) to catch up on with 3 pages of distinct threads. Such extra information would be useful for deciding where to start (depending on whether I have 2 minutes or half an hour to browse at each session).
