I already have one copy of Firefox installed and running on my iMac, but when I'm reading mail and the email calls for Firefox to open, a second copy of Firefox starts to install. Then, of course, I get the only one copy can be running at a time message.

Can you search for Firefox.app in Finder? If you get multiple results, delete the one that is NOT inside of your Applications folder.
